juju | Can you withdraw money from a roth ira before retirement? |
|
|

derek

Yes.
Contrary to what the others have stated, you can make penalty AND tax free withdrawals from your Roth IRA. So long as you only withdraw your contribution. The growth is the only thing that is subject to the distribution penalty.
This is one of the main reasons I love the Roth IRA (i'm amazed at how few people know they can withdraw their contribution at any time) |

yes but you will be taxed like you have never been taxed before |

within certain specs. like age, buying a 1st house,etc..and then you'll have to pay taxes on it,maybe the interest or penalties.might be wiser to find a better if not easier "loan" rate from the bank with the i.r.a. roth and borrow with the ira as guarantee or "collateral". |

I think so but you usually have to pay a penalty. Sometimes there are exceptions, like maybe if you use it to buy a house. |

Screaming Eagle

Yes, but if you do not have a qualifying reason for an early withdrawal, you will pay a 10% penalty plus any applicable taxes.
I think one way is that you can take out up to $50,000 of your contributions only, for the down payment on your first home. But you better check with a tax consultant first.
I think you also can take it out early if you retire early, on a life expectancy percentage basis. But you better check with a tax consultant first. |
