Difference(s) between Warranty and Guarantee?

cyberway
'Warranty' has a time limit, e.g. for 12 months... and may be extendable to 24, 36 or 48 months for example.

'Guarantee' is to a standard of quality and is not time bound... and is non-extendable.

Guarantee is the more general of the two words in meaning. It has the sense of assurance both as a noun and a verb.
Warranty is the actual written document that supports the assurance that something will be repaired or replaced without additional cost to the buyer.

To me both warranty and guarantee both mean approximately the same although I think a warranty is very often a document. A guarantee could also be a document but is frequently used in everyday conversation as in: I'll try to arrive on time but there's no guarantee I will be there to see the opening ceremony. Maintenance means keeping something in proper order as in: This maintenance book tells you how to look after your washing machine

A warranty is usually for a fixed amount of time, whereas a gurantee is usually permament. I believe..

Warrant means they will fix any problems that may occur between the time frame given
Guarantee means that the product is refundable under whatever circumstances that is giving by the manufacture or company you buy the product from

raysor
In consumer matters the two are exactly the same. In commercial transactions a warranty is an assurance by one party that the facts etc. are correct. So it depends in which context the words are used (as always)

Warranty they will replace or repair whatever breaks for a limited time, Most guarantees you can get a full refund if it breaks in specific amount of time.

A Warranty is a Assurance...

And

A Guarantee is a Promise or Pledge..

a guarantee is a promise that something will function for a specific period of time.

A warranty is a legal statement which provides that the seller of an item guarantees the item, but also provides specific repair and/or replacement, should the product fail within the specific time line.

So, bottom line, a guarantee might just be an empty promise that the item will work, or that one can simply receive their payment refunded, while the warranty is a promise to make it right by means of replacement, repairs, or etc.
