Depends on who is in office! During the '90s, the media went nuts as the market shot through the roof back then. Barely a whisper as the legs came out in early '00. They started screaming after the election in '00 and continued screaming as the President got his tax cuts, and the market shook off the terrorists late in '01 and has gone BACK to booming again. They are torn now too because Bush is still in the WH, but the Dems are in control of Congress. So they can't say TOO many bad things about the economy because then it will make Nancy and Harry look bad.

Well, wait a minute. Their approval ratings are LOWER than GWB's! Must be tough to be in charge! *laughter*

Liberals would probably look at the situation, analyze it, get angry, and start protesting about fascism.

Yardbird
Liberals who own stock like a rising stock market. Liberals who don't own stock are probably poor, struggling to get by, and not involved in politics. Don't forget that many rich are liberals.

Are you implying that there are no rich liberals?

I am quite liberal, and I like the rising stock market. Yeah, you guessed it. I am a financially well off liberal. Damn, that sucks, doesn't it ?

Good question. If the rich get richer but the liberals can't tax them to fund welfare - it irks them. On the other hand, a falling stock market means a recession and loss of jobs - so it upsets them. Any way they look at it they are unhappy - so they just take a Prozac and go on to rally for a new cause. Ideally though, like Hillary Clinton suggested, they would like to just TAKE the profits and do whatever they want with the money.

I'm a lifelong Dem. In general a rising stock market makes me more money, therefore it pleases me. Where did you get the idea that liberals don't have money in the stock market? Troll much?

1) Yes.
2) You are aware you can open a brokerage account with just $500.00 USD at Scottrade, right?

Profits don't come out of thin air. A rising stock market tends to correspond with the increased raping of the public -- especially the workforce. While the markets surge, along with prices on everything one needs (energy, housing, food), wages remain flat. This represents the very essence of the struggle between the rentier (right-wing) and labor (left-wing). The rich get richer and richer when workers work harder and harder for less and less.
