Do any of you actually make money in the stock market?

Additional Details
And is this a good or bad time to get into stocks because of the whole recession issue?

Who is John Galt?
Very risky buying stocks at the moment unless you are rich and have lots of money to waste. Buying a particular stock is pretty much like gambling be prepared to win or lose big. Timing is everything.
I would suggest a mutual fund as they are diversified, will generally outpace most single stock investments and can withstand market volatility.

However now is definitely the right time to invest. Just gotta pick the right area to put your money into.

there are trick to it. Mutual Funds have been mentioned. There is more to it than just being savvy.

If you're goal is to make money and you hear the stock market can do that, then its probably not for you. It definitely takes a lot of study and concentration.

Just like real estate the stock market is up and down. In the long run you will make money.

Now is actually a pretty good time to get in. The prices are down. What you might want to do is not put all your money in right now. But divide it into 4 and put that much a week for the next 4 weeks. That is called dollar cost averaging.

Good question.

I have a website devoted to this very topic. http://commonsensetrading.googlepages.com.

(Well... not this VERY topic, but its quite related.)

in a nutshell: most people, including professionals, do not make consistent money from TRADING or INVESTING in stocks or other financial instruments.

Very few people consistently make money from this.

The majority of finance professionals make money in other ways, such as: commissions, consulting fees, salaries, selling products, fees for business arrangements.

They do NOT make their living from investing or trading.
