Do you check your portfolio every day or off and on?
I check mine almost every hour. I really need to quit doing this!

oh, when the bear market hit in 2000-2003, I went 3 months at a time without checking.

I find I check it a lot more when markets are strong.

I normally check it daily to see if I need to cut my losses on anything. If I have gone on a birding trip to South America, it does not get checked until I return, about a month later. I do take defensive actions in that case like puts on QQQQ, just in case. Nothing like a little insurance.

When i started i watched it like a hawk, every minute but that did not help me at all. So i disciplined myself, got professional help to set up a portfolio which is diversified and for the long term and only check end of the year to rebalance it to reach my projected goals. Don't waste your time, your money is working for you if you followed simple rules like diversifying and investing for the long term.

And what does this do for you?
I have my advisors call me if there is something I should really know about and I receive bi-monthly statements so I can keep track of my investments. I can email or call them at anytime and I don't want to be a pain but I do direct them to things I think are good and this relationship has worked out well for me over the years. I am confident in their ability and I spend a little time looking into future investments that I can ask them about.

I check my portfolio about once a week. Its much easier to make money long-term. Fretting over small price changes or day trading will only rack up large transaction fees.

i check mine every day if i can. i try not to stare at it all day. it's just too stressful. you'll be crying one minute and breaking out the champaigne the next, as i'm sure you've noticed. if you're afraid you'll miss an opportunity, just set limit orders to catch them for you automatically.

It depends, I check it every 10-20 minutes, I dont like that habit so I try to keep myself busy. Checking so often often means that your nervous, so I would diversify it more.

Yes. (I am a Portfolio Manager)

Why don't you hire me and use your time for something more fun like playing golf, tennis or Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories?
