I do invest full time, but I also get a SS check. I was investing full time for about 6 years prior to drawing SS. It helps greatly if you have sufficient capital--at least $1,000,000 to invest. |

I dabble.
I think anyone who is invested heavily in the stock market in expectation of a bull market at this time may be in for major pain. I'm heavy cash.
I don't generally see investing as a full time job. For the average investor, the idea behind standard investing is to buy and hold. Now if you're a bigtime wheeler dealer looking to buy companies/real estate directly or have expansive amounts of money to invest, things may be different.
Traders vs investors may have to put in a good deal of work and time in learning though. |

If you have a million dollars to invest, you could make it a full time job. If you have less than that to invest, you can not justify it except on a part time basis. When I was in business administration school, I took a course in investments. It was taught by the head of the security analysis department at the largest bank in my state. Banks invest mostly in bonds, mortgages, credit card debt, and some real estate. His personal investment portfolio of course was mostly in common stocks. He later became president of the bank and then CEO of their holding company. He had a very large salary and stock options. He did his investing on a part time basis. He believed that on a lifetime basis, you could increase your annual investment performance by 20% if you managed your investments yourself as opposed to using mutual funds. |
