Do you play the lottery? And if so, do you ever really think you'll win?
I am not much of a gambler and I really don't get it... The odds are so against it...

I do not play the lottary. My family referrs to it as the "math tax," for people who do not really understand what "1 in 71 million" really means.

No. Casino and lottery gambling is like alcohol, it's for entertainment and escape, unless it turns into an addiction.

Investing in stocks is a lot more entertaining because the house take is smaller (unless your stake is hopelessly small) and it's not a zero-sum game as long as the economy is growing. And your "bet" can play for months or years rather than seconds or minutes.

I do play the lottery, but with no expectation of actually winning. It is similar to gambling in a casino. The odds are against me, but I have 0% chance of winning if I don't play. I invest 2 dollars a week for a very slight chance of winning. I can afford the risk of the 2 dollars, so it is worth it to me to take the chance. If I couldn't afford to lose the 2 dollars, then I wouldn't play at all. If I go to a casino (once every few years) I take a set sum of money (never exceeding $50.00) and play until I win or the set sum of money is gone, and then I leave. I see it as a form of entertainment. =-)
