Do you read the Wall Street Journal?
If so do you feel it benefits you? As far as investing decisions go?

I think the WSJ is very well written, and an interesting read, but it has no impact whatsoever on our investing decisions (I have read it regularly, though not daily, for 10+ years). It is written by journalists...why would you take investment advice from journalists? And how can you derive any investing advantage from reading one of the most widely-read newspapers in the Free World? Makes no sense...D

No. The Financial Times is a much better paper - you get all the American news you need, but the focus is much more international, like business is today. It gives you a much better sense of the world and how the world economy is doing than the WSJ. Plus, the editorials aren't nearly as shrill.

Yes I read the WSJ and it truly helps with the big picture of investing. The other media is so transfixed on small irrelevant issues that it does no good. BTW, I read this morning that the WSJ may stop charging for it's Internet site, because they may make more off of advertisement revenue,

i have been reading the wall street journal for 4 years. i think that for investing you need to read more than just the wall street journal but, it is a great paper and a great source for investing if combined with other sources such as barron's and investor's business daily

I don't.

I found that you can spend the entire day reading it and at the end of the day you are no better or worse off as far as your investment decisions go - just an information overload.

I have read the WSJ since the mid '80s, and it does help me make investing decisions. I get the greatest benefit from reading it consistently over time. That has given me a strong "gut sense" of what is happening, economically, that helps guide my decisions on which markets and sectors to focus on over the coming 6 to 12 months. I don't use the WSJ (or any other publication) to attempt short-term market timing, but reading it consistently over a long period of time has been very beneficial. And, one of the easiest ways to develop that "gut sense" is to simply scan the major headlines every day, and read the first couple of sentences of each paragraph of the articles that seem relevant. You don't have to invest more than 15 to 30 minutes a day to really get a sense of what is and isn't happening.

The important thing is that you read whatever you can about investing. That includes daily's like WSJ and local newspapers, weekley's like Barron's and the Economist, monthly's like Money, SmartMoney, Kiplinger's, etc, and books as they come out. BTW many of these are available online for free.

Like someone above said - you get the most out of it as you gain the big picture about investing.

Also don't forget about your local paper (or nearsest large city paper). Sometimes our best investments are in our backyard. I've live in 2 places most of my life - NC and Memphis. A good chunk of my portfolio is made up of stocks from these two places - some companies you've heard of, some you haven't - but they have been most profitable and I can keep close tabs on them in the local papers.
