Once upon a time in yahoo land | Do you think the governments bailout of Lehman is being fair to the US Taxpayers? |
seems like they get in over their heads making bad loans and we the taxpayers have our money used to bail them out and keep them afloat. My question is this: When Lehman's becomes profitable again, will the taxpayers get any fringe benefits from Lehman or will we just get the standard pat on the head routine and then its business as usual when we attempt to get a loan from Lehman's?
Maybe the government should give each taxpayer one share of Lehman's Blue Chip Stock as a reward for using our money to bail them out of the financial hole they got into all by themselves, probably because they got too greedy.
What is your take on this people? Additional Details I have never in my life applied for any type of loan from any financial institution, my credit score is perfect because everything that I now own, including y home, my vehicles, my plane and a rather large ship that I purchased at a government auction, were all paid for in cold hard cash.
I support myself by investing in the stock market, usually earning a daily profit that may exceed the weekly paychecks of others, and I enjoy doing this and will continue to do this because its fun and I seem to have a natural knack for picking stocks that are going up in value the same day that I purchased the stock, why this is, beats the hell out of me, but the system that I use works and like they say down here in Texas: If it ain't broke, don't fix it! |

Even though Lehman filed for bankruptcy, I suspect that there will be taxpayer money involved somewhere. The most rotten part of the whole deal is that the CEOs walked away with mega bucks. In the case of Lehman, Fuld walked away with more than 150 million in just the last two years at Lehman. And that is just the tip of the Iceberg. CEO compansation for all these failed Wall Street robbers and mortgage robbers is in the billions. It is expected to cost tax payers about a trillion dollars, almost as much as Bush's expedition to Iraq. |

And Lehman helped give you the low interest mortgage loan. Do you want to have a high interest loan or no loan at all? These companies have taken BIG risk. Be appreciative that someone is willing to trust you even w/ a bad credit score.
But moving on... what the Fed did is completely fine. They gave a $80 billion loan with 10% interest over 2 years. No one wants that kind of interest rate. And the Fed dumped all the officers and replaced it with they ones they want.
And with the issue of CEOs walking a lot of money, these guys are self-interested but still want to help us out. Some of these guys lost 90% in their stock holdings! They did not walk out with that much. |

Lehman wasn't bailed out. You must be thinking of Bear Stearns.
Also, when the fed "bails out" a company, they give them a loan.
The loan is payed back by the company and the interest on that loan goes back into the treasury. So in effect, we are actually gaining money in the treasury when this occurs.
Since the treasury was created to save financial institutions from going under, and preventing another depression, I fail to see why this is an issue. They are doing what they were created to do. |

Lehman filed bankruptcy - It's AIG that's being bailed out and the whole thing stinks. |

Lehman isn't getting bailed out. It is one of many banks that have gone bankrupt. Bush has asked for Congress to approve money to shore up mortgages and banks. Congress is run by the democrats, (Bushes enemy) If congress approves this money, blame them, and Bush. He asked for the money, only they can approve it. If they add too much to it, he will VETO it. If the democrats don't agree with him, the bill will never come to the floor. |

No - the whole thing reeks. It will cripple our kids and our kids' kids with debt they don't even know about yet. They should have let them fail, and its not over yet. The airlines and auto makers are next in line. We, however, get nothing but more taxes!! |
