Do you think the northern rock brand has been damaged?
I personally think that out of this crisis it has goten extra publicity about its brand and it just shows how stupid people can be at times.

Yes, most definately. Unfortuantely people have lost all trust in the brand now. You can see this by the fact the people were queueing up round the block to take their money out, even though it was perfectly safe and their was no risk.

I think Northern Rock were very unfortunate. They did the right thing in getting a loan to be on the safe side although they didn't really need it, rather than trying to cover everything up.

The fact is that all the banks are in similar situations, and this is what the general public don't realise. Nothern Rock were just the first because their business is mostly mortgages rather than savings account. Im sure that other banks will be getting loads in the future.

It has really shown up the general public. They all acted like sheep without thinking, rather than sitting down and learning the facts before they acted. They are the ones who have lost out though, as many people who took their money out will have put it in lower interest accounts.

I think the only think for Northern Rock now unfortunately is to be taken over and rebranded as something else, and people will end up forgetting about the last couple of weeks.

No but I think the reputation of the Bank of England has been damaged.

er, derrr, I don't think the 'no publicity is bad publicity' when it comes to financial institutions. It' a bit like saying Perrier got publicity, even though it was contaminated?????

I haven't followed this particular case very closely. But, in the UK people were lined down the street waiting to take their money out of Northern Rock. That would seem damaging to me.

As everyone else (more or less) is saying there is no smoke without fire but in all fairness all big buisnesses tend to go through this sort of thing and more often than not make a complete recovery, its been a long long time since a bank bit the dust so have faith , my shares will be staying put and i feel with all the reassurance from government investors will return to turn this situation around.

Severally damaged - yes!

John S
Yes, Northern Rock has been damaged by this publicity. Expect to see the geezer in overall control leave in the near future.

I for one wouldn't put my money in Northern Rock. My old mother had no education and always said, "Never spend more than you earn or else you will be in debt".

Of course you would, so how come someone earning £1.4 million a year didn't know that.

If they've done it once and gotten away with it, they will do it again.
