Does it seem like just a game. Some times news is bad but good and good is bad for stocks. If your short selling anyway, which most are, does it really matter things like "business news?&...

Do you think the stock market will go back up after the election?
...Or is this the big depression/recession some are predicting?
While historical performance is not indicative of future results, historically the average bull market has lasted several years; on the other hand the average bear market about six months.
The Fed rate cuts have yet to impact or work their way into the economy its still to early and usually a serious bear market is when bull market leaders break down and weak, speculative stocks lead for a little while; we have yet to see that as energy continues to lead the market, along with healthcare; although many of the banks that were leaders have been very, very weak.
Energy prices and weak housing continue to weigh on consumers as most homebuilders see continued weakness through 2008 and most energy companies remain optimistic; retail may get a bit of a boost from the stimulus package but it's hard to say if will only be temporary with that sector.
So I think the market will not go too much higher or lower after this present correction, but rather should be flat with some of the weak sectors overall balancing out with some strong sectors.

Yes. The market will go up. it may be by next month. It could be in 17 years. I'm not too sure. No one is.

It will go up when investors perceive the economy is starting to revive but the market hates uncertainty so the election will also be a factor in stabilizing the markets regardless who gets in.

The market doesn't like uncertainty...But It also can depend on WHO the next Prez is... there is a BIG difference! It can and probably will influence the market.
But also... this is in the short term. It is very difficult or impossible to predict the markets behavior in such a short period of time. But If you find someone who KNOWS the answer...I would like to meet them!

i dont think the election have anything to do with the stock market; our economy is in bad shape right now due to the government not doing their job (in my opinion)

If I or anyone else knew the answer to this question, they wouldn't be on Yahoo! Answers.
My personal opinion is that the U.S. market will be stagnant the next 5-10 years. Welcome to the 1970s.

Who knows. It is best to just trade what you see. Right now the markets are going down. So we should be shorting or doing some other bearish strategy.

It is a recession, how big is the answer no one really knows yet.

It will go up sooner than that, this is just a correction all the signs are showing it's headed up.
