Do you think, with the price of gasoline dropping so low, that how is the time to store up a bunch for a rainy?
Day?

No. First, it is called hoarding and will eventually lead to shortages if many people do it. Second, it is dangerous for an individual to be storing a lot of gasoline. Third, If your storage is not absolutely airtight it will collect moisture and eventually cause at least some of it to be unusable. If you try to use gasoline with water in it, it will damage your vehicle. Fourth, gasoline goes bad and some of the compounds separate out. You end up with some liquid, some gel and something like shellac.

Gasoline does not keep. I tried this years ago, and after 6 months in the tank, about a third had evaporated, and the rest was gummy like. Trust me, don't waste your money.

E
NO. Gasoline goes stale after 90 days. That is why products are sold to preserve gasoline in boats, tractors etc. over winter. What really happens is the lighter parts of the gasoline evaporate. Gas is not just one chemical compound but a mix of lighter and heavier hydrocarbons. Additives prevent carbon buildup on intake valves etc.

Second, storage of more than 50 gallons requires county zoning / building inspection / fire marshal inspection in most jurisdictions.
If you have a house fire and everything is not approved by zoning / fire marshal your fire insurance might not pay... Ouch !!

Sorry to throw so much cold water on an otherwise good idea.
One thought comes to mind. If you used to have oil heat, and you converted to natural gas or electric heat, and you still have the underground tank..... What would be required to safely convert the old tank???

Yeah do it now, before it goes back up. However, we don't know how low the barrel of oil will go. Best way is to go to bloomberg on your TV or computer and see what gas future prices are being traded at. Watch them for a week, if they keep going down than that will be reflected directly at the pump. The inverse is true as well.

I think USO is an excellent ETF to buy currently, with oil prices near $35 a gallon. I can easily see the price of oil quadrupling within the next 5 years as more people in developing nations buy cars and increase worldwide demand for gasoline.

Sure. Do you have a storage tank in your basement?

Yes, it might be a good idea financially but not to store the gas. What you can do is buy the exchange traded fund, ticker UGA. It tracks the price of gasoline, so when gas prices go up you can use that money to buy gas.

don't (if you mean gasoline) because it will take up room whereever, and if there is a fire(god forbid) youre dooomed!!!! also, the prices are dropping when we aren't buying.

i just filled up for a buck 32... if i would have had a couple of 55 gal. drums and a few gals. of fuel stabilizer i would have filled those too. but i think we are safe to hold off for now. fuel prices are still dropping and you can see a climb before the price actually hits the pumps...

I'm storing up on gas so that when it goes back up, I will already have some from when it was cheap.

Firstly - I would like to THANK Bush for the low gas prices that we are enjoying today, because in another month - the price of EVERYTHING will be going up out of control again with the next president.................

So yes - if you have the ability to store the gas, then do so.
