Greywolf | Does $7 per trade mean I can sell 100 shares of GM for $7 or would it be $700? |
I want to purchase for short and long term investments and I'm completely new to buying stocks. I live in a rural town so there are no yellow page listings for investment brokers. How do I find someone to purchase the stocks for me? What's important to know? |

Even if you live in a rural town, as long as you have internet, you can buy stocks. Just sign up for any of those online brokers, such as etrade.com, scottrade.com, tdameritrade.com, etc. and you can do your own stock buying and selling.
Based on your question, $7 per trade means the commission price. That's how much the broker will charge for every stock transaction. But if you mean $7 per share, that means you can sell your stock for $7. So if you have 100 shares, then you would get $700.
Please do educate yourself more before diving into the stock market. I'm only saying this cause of current market situation. You should be careful and really know what you're doing before putting a penny into the market.
Happy Trading,

Some online brokerage's include E-Trade, Scottrade, Charles Shwab, Fidelity, Ameritrade, Gorilla Trades.
As far as GM goes, I wouldn't touch it with someone elses 10 foot pole, you're better off buying a lottery ticket.
For the per trade fee you'll have to read the fine print for whichever brokerage firm you choose. I use Scottrade and its a flat rate of $7 whether I buy 1 share or 1000 shares.... it's $7 total. Just to expand on that a little, it's the total shares of one purchase. If you buy 50 shares today and 50 shares tomorrow, each transaction is $7 for a grand total of $14 regardless if its the same company or not. |

If it's $7.00 per trade and you have 100 shares, yes you can sell them and make $700.00. |

You can only sell at the current trade price. If its $7 a share, yes. |

It means you pay $7 and you can buy as many shares as you want. So whether it is 1 share or 1,000,000 shares (in theory, there's probably a limit) it will cost you $7.
Buying stock is a great thing, especially right now, in my opinion. The best way, if you know how to select your stocks, is to open an online trading account. Any other method will be expensive.
Good luck! |

I asked this question about a week or 2 ago because I was also confused. The answer is $7. Think about it. Who is going to put in $700 just for commissions? If you just think about it, the answer is obvious. |

$7 per trade means that whether you are buying one share or many shares, it's only $7 per buy or sell transaction. Full-service brokerages are pretty expensive but there are online ones that charge approximately $7 per trade. If you want someone else to purchase it, I guess you'll have to use a broker, either by phone at a "discount" brokerage. The cost will be more than $7 for that, though, probably more like $100 per transaction. |
