Does anyone know any good online brokers that are cheap to start up?

Dax
I'd try scottrade. they are getting good reviews only $7/trade.

Or if you would like to trade everything under the sun try interactive brokers $1/trade - excellent for daytrading.

TD Ameritrade is $10 a pop. Not too bad. Their research material is not as comprehensive as Fidelity despite their ad claims, but Fidelity is more expensive--about $15.

Irish
I would check with Charles Schwab and Fidelity Investments for starters.

Check out TD Ameritrade.

TD Ameritrade. Waterhouse is less investor friendly after merging with Ameritrade, though. For instance, they execute buy orders above ask or sell below bid.

Stockbuilder is ok. $4 trades are executed en-mass once per day at either the opening or closing price. Real time market orders are competitive with TD and other online brokers.

Note to all: my streak is lousy lately. Before you shell your hard earned bucks in the market lemme buy everything so you can short it all and retire early. :o)

I love scottrade.com. It's a smaller company, the UI's a bit crude, but easy to use and the on-line commissions are just $7.

firsttrade.com see below for the comparison

I've used several and I would agree with the other answers that scottrade is the best. I've used ML.com (merrill Lynch), Bank of America, Ameritrade, and TD Waterhouse...none are as fast on executions and cheap on commissions as Scottrade - plus they have local branches if you need them.
