Does anyone think that perhaps what we really need is a good recession to solve all this?

You raise a valid point. We seem to understand that nature has seasons of bounty and harvest, and seasons of dormance and renewal, but don't expect the same for our financial situations. Since the time of Joseph in Egypt there have been crises that required national intervention to navigate properly, and insure stores for prosperity during tough times. "Modern" man thinks he can financially engineer around every cycle. It is odd indeed.

Good question. We're going to have to eat our losses sooner or later. There's firms out there that deserve to fail. We've survived recessions.

I'd rather take my medicine quickly than spread it over several years.

There is already a recession, they're trying to avoid a depression.

How toes stagnation help anything?

betmoneyonit
I have seen several recessions in my lifetime and every single attempt to hold it off has resulted in simply delaying the inevitable and it ends up working itself out over a longer period of time.

The problem is, where is the moral line drawn to at least attempt to lessen the pain?

I'm no big fan of the Secretary of the Treasury or the Chairman of the Fed, but I wouldn't have their job for anything on earth.

Tami, I am surprised at you!

I think it is good for the country. As they say the strong will survive. Those that made bad or greedy decisions will be gone and the country will be better off. I also agree that CEO should not get more than what the president of the united states get paid $400,000. no more no less. Take it or leave it. In the 1980 we had the banking scandal and surivied
we will be ok after this one too.

we do. You are right. We need a good old fashioned recession to clean most of the snakes out of the investment and banking industry

Come on those greedy people already have enough money and knowledge to survive this. It is the average American that is going to suffer the most. The Dems will watch out for the poor.

Look at how long Japan has been in recession and ask if you want to still be here or worse in 5 years? It is a far uglier thing than you want to live through.
