No. Im a quant/tech trader for a hedge fund. when the s&p breaks 1006 and the Dow breaks 9323 then we will break out of the bottom. The "bottom" is no definitive point or #. we are bottom fishing ladies and gentlemen. We can safely retest 7xxx EASILY, actually hopefully. bc then we have 3 bases in the 7s , we can pop a sustained uptick off of breaking back up above 8 from the 7s, if we sustain the uptick we should consolidate in the 9s and see good stock market health. this wont happen until after Jan 20th when Obama speaks about his economic plans. 2009 is gonna be the year where the ppl who know where and how to get into the right positions will make millions over the course of 2009-2017. (8yrs of democratic presidency with Obama whom the world is in love with). -

We may be at a near term bottom, and a nice short term rally would not be out of the question. But.....then reality sets in that we are no where near getting out the recession and we see more down market. If you are a quick acting trader, there is money to be made in both directions as volatility is likely to continue. But, it is likely way too early to see a sustained recovery. We are low enough that you could do a monthly buy starting now and continue through the bad news that will come. Eventually you should make money. Be sure and use ETFs or mutuals or very large stable companies because some companies will not survive this recession. |

It 'seems' to be somewhere near the bottom, but I wouldn't hazard a guess. The only thing I know is it's the best time for value buying. |

YES! I am here to say that we have hit a bottom November 20th when it was at 7550 for the Dow. The bottom is already in, everyone will get so used to the bad news that stocks won't drop more.
Everything is so cheap that it just doesn't make sense to go lower than 7000.
I am not trying to over hype but I really do think the worst has already happened.

It is impossible to know when the bottom has hit until it's already past. If you are trying to time things to make sure you get stocks at their cheapest point, good luck...you're probably just wasting your time.
You're best bet if you're looking at getting into the market right now is to dollar cost average (if you have $1000, put in $150/month in each of the next 8 months or so) over the next 6-8 months or so. that way you'll catch the bottom and all the lows that are also close to the bottom. It's safe to assume we're close to the bottom, but there is far too much uncertainty out there right now with the housing markets, job markets, political changes and the stock market to know exactly when it will hit or if it has already. |
