Does selling a stock i own constitute a trade? will it incur a trade fee ?
i am thinking of opening an account on scottrade.com. they charge $7 per trade. a trade means buying a stock only or buying and selling both ?. lets say i buy 10 shares worth $10 each for 1 company. i pay $7. after 1 month i sell all 10 shares. will i have to pay $7 again ?

Yes. Every time you buy, it is a trade. Every time you sell, it is a trade. That's why it isn't smart to be buying and selling every month. That's why the 'buy and hold' strategy has been so successful for so long. That's why people don't buy shares in little 10-share blocks. Normally, smart investors buy 100's of shares at once, then hold them for years at a time before they sell.

yes, any order you place, buy or sell you will be charged a comission for the transaction.Use scottrades education center to better understand what that means , and look at their comission schedule to see what they charge for online and broker assisted transactions

A trade is buying or selling.

Most brokers will charge a commission for both buying and selling. Many have identical fees for both, but some having fees that are different for buying and selling; usually those have lower fees for buying to encourage people to buy more and sell less so that they can build their portfolio. Generally, the brokers with lower fees for buying are building their business around entry-level investors and help them save money as they build their portfolio.

yeah it will be every trade. be careful with little things like that. but really if your trading on a big enough scale $7 isnt a lot of money

Trish
Yes, my best advice is try NOT to use a broker... they add extra fees.
