I truly don't care just trying to keep my head above water, and we can't do anything about it anyways so why worry about it. This is just more to come all the things Bush has done, and will show him up and the big fall is on the way. Welcome to the great depression 2008. |

They'd better if they plan to ever retire, buy a house or car, or take care of their family in the future. It's not just about the rich. You'll feel it too, Mr. week-to-week. |

the stock traders make there money weather you buy or sell. if they scare enough people to sell the market crashes and they make a killing on the commissions. they make out anyways |

There are people who, for example, have had a redundancy payment, invested it in order to provide themselves with an income, then lost it, and now have nothing to live on. It doesn't just affect the rich. However, there is an upside which isn't mentioned. |

The sky isn't falling but you should be concerned. It does affect you. If banks don't have money to loan how do you figure average Jane Doe will ever be able to buy a car, or house, no matter how old they are. If the dollar is worth nothing compared to other markets, buying imported goods will cost you twice as much and for such a consuming nation, that's a HUGE deal. Also, if it costs these companies too much to operate or manufacture there, they'll leave. Bye bye jobs. And that goes for big companies such as car manufacturers. No it won't affect you directly because you don't have any money in the markets. But wake up and smell the bacon, it's likely already affected your life in one way or another. And just so we're clear, i'm not a part of the rich and greedy. I'm a student who lives on a very tight budget. Hence why i look awful close and what things cost and how market changes are going to effect my budget. |

it should matter, if the value of the dollar crashes everything we own will be worthless. |

While a falling stock market may not affect you today, it will affect you at a later time. The stock market is a good (but by no means perfect) way of assessing how the economy is doing. The economy affects your ability to get new loans, how much you pay for groceries and gas, etc. That's why the stock market matters. You don't have to have stocks for it to affect you personally. |

Duhhhh....yes!! The average person has money in the stock market in the form of their 401K. Also, the crumbling market affects every aspect of the economy. Have you ever heard of the Great Depression? When the stock market fell in 1929, so many people lost their jobs that the government had to set up soup lines just to feed the poor. The state of California closed its borders because so many people went there looking for work. |

If you are living paycheck to paycheck perhaps not as much as some. The problem with the stock market for the average person is collateral damage. You have to consider your job. Some examples - If you work in construction, you may lose your job because investors who have lost money in the market may not have the money to spend on construction. If you work in the service industry, there may be cut backs there as ess people have money to use their services. These can all effect you job. If you have been with your company for a number of years and have money put away in retirement accounts, there accounts invest heavily in the market and the money may not be there when you want to retire. |

the stock market is the engine of the modern economy if you live pay check to pay check you may not get your next pay check if some thing catastrophic happens to the stock market. you may not be in the market directly but your employer most probably would and a large number of his decisions must be effected by the ups and downs of the market |

Absolutely!!
If you have ANY investments or property, you care. If you've just graduated from college and can't find a job to pay your student loans, you care. If you have reached that point in your life where it's time to start a home and a family, you care. If you even wanna take out a Best Buy credit card or borrow money to buy a car, you care!!
Honestly, most of us live paycheck to paycheck, even the rich, when they don't plan properly. If you want to plan properly for the future, save for retirement or one day own a home, you care! This stuff will be affecting us for a long time.
This stuff IS really important. What is happening today will be talked about for a long time, taught in history class. Just like 9/11, you will be affected. |

other than that fact that when you actually get some money, you might not be able to invest it in anything.....
or it'll cost you more to invest.....
or the fact that you'll get hit with higher taxes to pay for it, later...
or if it majorly screws up the economy (knock on wood) you'll not be able to buy jack...
and its messing up a lot of everybody, mostly lower-to middle class people being forcloused and losing their houses. |
