SirHambone | Estimates about inflation with regard to $100,000, Please serious responses only? |
Do you know any estimates for inflation over the next 30 years. Say somebody wants to have the 2030's equivalent of todays $100,000 per year upon retirement, what should one expect to actually pull out per year? If I started investing today with My wife, with combined income of about $85,000/ year |

Future value formula:
amt today x (1+inf rate)^number of years
Assumptions: inflation avg = 3%, 2030 - 2007 = 23 years
Therefore:
100,000 x (1+ .03)^23 = $197,358.65
Result: In 2030 $197,358.65 is equivalent to $100,000 in 2007 factoring 3% inflation. |

Use the rule of 72. If you presume a 4% inflation rate which is about middle of the road you can divide that number into the factor of 72
Therefore in 18 years 100,000 in todays dollars would be 200,000. |

Most people average inflation out to be about 3% per year. Assuming this, 100,000 would be 242,726 in 2030. |

http://inflationdata.com/inflation/Inflation_Rate/AnnualInflation.asp
"the average annual inflation rate for the entire period since 1914 is 3.43% "
so use 3.43%. which means every 20 years, prices double. |

in 1970 a cadilac was 6000 today it is 60000, in 1970 a stamp was 4 or 5 cents , now it is 41... i would say based off of historical account that it would be safe to say adding a 0 to anything and everything in 30 years would be a safe bet!!!are you gonna buy a mustang in 30 yrs for 200000?? probably... |

$100,000.00 USD in 1976 would cost $360,000.00 USD in 2006
Asuming the inflation will be the same from 2006 to 2036 then you would need $360,000.00 USD in 2036 |
