For an 18 year old what is the most promising thing to invest in?
im really looking for something to invest my money in and am having problems finding things with a promising future

18 is a great time to get started, however, it is very confusing if you don't learn the basics. By the basics, I mean you need to figure out a bunch of stuff about why you are investing (for retirement, to buy a car, or whatever it may be). If you are investing for retirement, you need to set a plan: When do you want to retire (what age), how long will you live after retirement, how much money will you need to sustain your lifestyle, etc. Take the time to set an objective and goals, it will help guide you towards a strategy that is right for you.

Before you invest in any thing, the first investment you should make is in yourself, and the best investment you can make is by educating yourself.

Try various websites that are for investments

For securities you can visit
http://moneycentral.msn.com/home.asp
http://finance.yahoo.com/

Don't ever let anyone tell you Not to invest, the sooner you start learning about investments the better you will be, not only financially but also as a person.

If you need more security investment ideas, come back and you will receive many good responses.

Good luck on your journey

Best investment has been and will be in the long run an education

Diversify you investment though a tax free savings plan IRA, Roth IRA, or 401k though an employer. You can google them learn a bunch of stuff online about those terms. Tax savings investments are the best way to save money because you never have to worry about the gains getting eaten up by taxes. A treditional IRA you can deduct each year what you put in but have to pay taxes when you retire which your tax bracket could be high.I would setup one up though a discount broker like scottrade.com. Fidelity had some great funds that are setup so you can predict how many years till retirement. I have a friend who started with an IRA when he turned 18 he is now 38 and has 500k saved so far. He plans on retiring when he is 55-60. The time will go by very fast so think about savings money first before you spend on anything else.

It may not seem important now, but retirement. A Roth IRA. 65 year old you will thank 18 year old you A LOT.

A Roth IRA, and once you've maxed out your yearly contribution, a money market account or CDs. They're the best bets, then if you do have any money you want to "play" around with, invest in the stock market or mutual funds (which typically do well but will follow the market)--buying stocks is like gambling, essentially, because of the speed in market changes.

Good luck!

Invest in yourself.

If you have any spare cash, invest it in a no-load mutual fund that does well. And keep an eye on it.
Add to regularly and by the age of 40, you'll be sitting pretty.
