Found stock dated 1902 from the Great Western Mineral Mining Company Where do I go now??
Had to move in with my sick mother and have been cleaning out old stuff and came across this stock paper. It's from Idaho and the company is Great Western Mineral Mining Company. My Great Grandfather bought 100 shares at $1.00 each on 10/31/1902. Does someone out there know how I find out if this is worth anything other then the pretty paper it is printed on if so please tell me. I will be greatly appreciative!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you have a brokerage account or mutual fund with an investment company, someone there can research the company for you and tell you its genesis. It could be that the company was bought out by another, and that by another, and so on, and the current company could be in an entirely different industry. Once you have the genesis of the company, you can contact the Stock Servicing Department of the company and inquire as to their procedures for surrendering the certificate for a new certificate reflecting the ownership in the current company. You also need to know the history of stock splits involved in that genesis. A single share of the original company could be worth several shares in the current company. Once you have the updated certificate, you can hold or sell your interest.

Check with the Secretary of State in the state it was incorporated in. They can tell you the status of the company. Many of them have online databases you can search for companies.

There is a Great Western Minerals Group stock, symbol GWG.V that is currently at .23, that is 23 cents a share.

That would make your stock (if it's the same company) worth about $25. But most stockbrokers change $25 to cash in old certificates so you wouldnt be making anything.

There are lots of people who collect the old certificates for the art value, so you might be able to get a few dollars on that.

Here is great westerm minerals website

The are a canadian company but could have bought out the old one from Idaho. I would suggest you email them and ask if they used to be or bought out your company.

You can search for past filings at the Security exchange commission, edgars filings, http://www.sec.gov/edgar.shtml. (added) go there and search for filings by the company name.

I'd also call the Idaho secretary of state or check their website too. They should have filings of all companies incorporated in Idaho since it was a state. They should be able to tell you if the name changed, etc.

I doubt the company has gone out of business, most likely they changed their name or were bought out. Then you'd be in the process of contacting the new companies to reissue the certificate in the new company name.

If the company is no longer in business then you're probably out of luck.

Hello.... I stumbled across your question while surfing the net today. My business is buying and selling early western mining stock certificates such as yours. Most of these early companies went out of business many years ago and have no "real" stock value. They do, however, have collectible value and I would be happy to make you an offer. Simply type DALY'S MINING SHOP into any search engine and my website will come up. You can contact me from there.

i googled it and couldnt find anything. do you have a symbol for it, not that it would still be the same, but it might be a starting point.
