The REAL question is, can GM last 3 months before running out of cash? And if they can, then what?

Disclosure:
Short GM via put options.

edit:
actually GM is traded at a 65 year low today (That would be the lowest level since 1943).

It's not the economy that's burying General Motors. Check again.

ugh do not buy GM stock. THey are having liquidity problems and stated this week that they may not have enough cash to operate in 2009. Get the heck out and dont buy it.
they will bankrupt

It will likely be worthless, sooner than later.

IMHO. The government will likely wait until GM files for bankruptcy THEN come in to keep the company alive and that means all the shareholders would be wiped out.

They will want to rescue the company, not the shareholders. In bankruptcy they have a better shot at saving the company because they can wipe out all contracts, change benefit packages, or whatever under the jurisdiction and with the power of the courts.

Therefore, it is my opinion one should not depend on the government to save the stock even if they save the company. If the shareholder is to be saved it must be done by the company and with private money.

Right now it looks like they will not be able to do it.

if I would have some Extra cash I would buy this stock not now but after some time( probably 3 weeks)...

WHY???? Because US Govt will never let this company fall down and the way gas prices are going down this stock has potential to pickup

I wouldn't touch it. It's tough to believe that America would let it's biggest car companies fall, but I don't know if there's much of a choice. It looks like downsize and merger time.. maybe even too late for that. I just can't help but think in the long run though, that if these companies fall, cars are going to get considerably pricier. Other countries will know that they have us by the.. uh, wheels.

As a consumer I would not consider GM.
I want little cars that are good with gas and cheap.
Nissan, and Toyota.
Nissan has a versa that you can buy for 9,500. Get GM to build a car that cheap and fuel economical, then maybe.

GM is not going anywhere. It will be in business for a long, long time. If you looked into what they have here and in other countries you would be very surprised. They are not going out of business. The government will bail them out and be back in the black in a year or so. I was hoping they would merger and buy out Ford. If this could and would happen...... You looking a t stock prices going to $300 a share. Would it happen....?????

The stock hasn't been this low since the 50's so, it has nowhere to go but up. Be patriotic buy american!
