Is it any wonder we don't have any clue what to do with investments. Based on the previous answers, no one on here appears aware of the impeding doom for the US dollar. While the dollar continues to tank, stocks and bonds will become useless investments. Gold will not. Why do you think elites have been dumping the dollar for other currencies and commodities? The US economy is falling apart people and the FED is keeping us afloat by pumping money into the system, further deflating the value, and foreigners are lending us money. We don't own our country.

Gold. |

In five years, stock could become worthless, value of gold on the other hand , fluctuates, but never loses much in value over a long period of time. |

Ordinarily I would say stocks and bonds, but the US dollar seems to be in a long-term downward trend, which has no end in sight--and which takes away from stock and bond earnings.
So I would say gold, which rises as the dollar falls. |

bonds,
gold and stocks fluctuate too much, you may end up making more money but it could easily go the other way as well |

stocks and bonds. gold is too volatile. any major country in the world can dump several tons of gold onto the market to pick up some hard currency and drive the price of gold down. Production could pick up, new sources could be found. In 5 years, it could be back to $300 /oz again. As soon as it gets high enough, the really large holders of gold will start dumping it to cash in and the market will fall. The time to get in was in 2001-2002. The time to get out is now.
Over 5 years, stocks and bonds will rise and fall, but long term, $100 invested in stocks in 1970 would far surpass $100 invested in gold. The same will hold true for the next 40 years. |

Your choice should depend on other things. First of all, how much money do you have to invest? Do you already have a 401k, or similar plan, through work? How much cash on hand do you have for an "emergency"? What debt do you have?
I recommend that you always have 2 weeks to 6 months worth of expenses on hand in cash in the bank. You could get sick, lose your job, have a surprise medical expense, etc., and you need to be prepared.
After your emergency fund, what debt do you have? If you have $5k in cash to "invest", but you have a $4k credit card balance at 13% interest, you should absolutely pay off the credit card FIRST.
Once your emergency money is set and your debt is paid off, THEN start investing. You should also have a blananced investment portfolio where money is spread out - stocks, bonds, cd's, etc.
As for your gold question, gold is generally quite volitile in price. Right now, gold is at historic highs, but there is no gurantee it will continue to go up. In fact, for many years, gold was much closer to $300 then it was to $800+. You could buy gold now and have it drop right back down to those levels.
You should note that over any 10 year period, stocks have outperformed EVERY other asset class. |

the gold coins.
i'd also trade some of the gold for silver, because i think there's more relative upside in silver in the next five years... |

Ridin the storm out

Looking @ your answers has me all confused. I guess I should take Stock in the Stocks, but be bound to bonds, and hope that gold stays high in price.
SO, I am so indecisive, I will have to say all three for a preference, and see what happens if given the chance.
Take care and have a great week-end. I need to invest in some ICE MELT and a GREAT SHOVEL, as we are getting hit with a WINTER STORM in my neck of the woods. Lucky people that don't have to deal wtih this, anyhow! lol! |

Stocks for anyone not needing the money in the very short term and then I'd say bonds - click the linkie as to why gold is not a good investment over time. |
