Bonds or fixed interest are best when interest rates are coming down. Which they are currently. Corporate bonds give slioghtly better rates than gov't bonds as they are considered higher risk. Bonds are rated by Standard & Poors. AAA+ is best then AAA then AA etc. The lower the rating; down to junk bonds the higher the yield. Ah that's another thing learn about coupons, flat yields & redemption yields for starters.

SuperCactus
U.S Treasury Bonds. Safe as the USA.

"Good" and "low-Risk" rarely go together.

by Good, I presume you expect a return on your investment better than the market in general.

Low risk probably means you dont want to lose your investment.

the only way to do this is with bonds or most certificates of deposit.

Bonds are not without risk, Even US savings bonds may not be a good investment if inflation out runs them.

CD's do guarantee you get your investment back, but right now the rates are so low that its not keeping up with inflation either.

Do some more studying on investment and risk.

there are many investment options out there.

CDs=stable value, 4 to 41/2% yield per year, insured
Vanguard GinnieMae fund= around a 5% yield, federally backed (safe), value can fluctuate.
Treasury bonds and bills are totally safe, lower yield, stable value if held to maturity.

I am going to give you the best investment advice you will ever get in your life: DO NOT EVER RELY ON THE UNQUALIFIED ADVICE WHICH YOU WILL RECEIVE ON YAHOO! ANSWERS! More often than not the answers are completely wrong and the person answering simply makes up something in order to boost their hubris.

Bonds are safe though... do some research, do not rely on us!
