eBay hasn't ruined it for other businesses. If anything it just shows that a good idea can succeed regardless of comments from others. When eBay started it was welcomed with derision, as was PayPal. Both were seen as little companies that were cute, but wouldn't get very far. Now look at them.
Just work out what you're trying to sell, decide what's so special about it, then go out and sell it! That doesn't mean that you shouldn't establish a virtual shop on eBay too... |

It may have affected businesses who haven't kept up with the trend. A lot of shops now sell from the premises & on Ebay, potentially increasing turnover, not reducing it. |

yeah, but then the same can be said about all businesses. Before Tesco came along every town would have a butcher, greengrocer, fishmonger however today you would be lucky to find one of those shops in a town. That is the result of our economy, the strogest survive and the smaller weaker companies are pushed out |

It may have hurt a few but so many more people have been able to earn money because of Ebay.
Now I do not think Ebay will be in the same position in a few years as they are today, meaning that they will lose market share to other auction sites because they still use old technology and have high listing fees where auction sites such as DubLi uses the newest technology, have no or low listing fees. |

I don't think the market for stock on ebay would be big, but you could try. |

I definitely think that EBay has pretty much devalued the price of most items. In the UK, cars change hands for £50+/- on EBay - that is ridiculous!
Also, I don't see how companies manage to sell on EBay, they can offer a DVD for example @ £5 with free postage, but there will be a 2nd hand version for £1 or someone selling an unwanted gift for £0.50 - I know which I would prefer!
People seem to pay a lot of money for absolute rubbish, but when there is a descent item - nobody wants to pay for it - everyone wants something great, but they are not prepared to pay.
On a slightly different direction, EBay has been over-run with non-paying bidders and scammers - nothing happens to them! If you bid and win - then pay - it is a legal contract - nobody forced you to bid! |

No I would say there is lots of room for specialised businesses. I do always search for most purchases I want on Ebay first to check the price but sometimes retailers can offer a better price, better variety or better delivery times. |

ebay has a lot of fees here and there...little fees that add up to a lot, but the average person with a low IQ does not notice this so they keep paying all that money! so yea it has ruined it for other businessess! |
