go to www.thestreet.com you have everything you need there
when you look for a stock, look for PEG ratio less than 2.
PE ratio and PEG ratio is what makes a good call to see whether a stock is overpriced or under valued.
i'd pick GOOG, AAPL, RIMM, BIDU, VMW, ISGR, T, C, GS, CHL
STAY AWAY from financial sector right now due to credit crunch. Tech sector is the best to go with right now |

Yahoo finance can show you. Most stocks have three or four-letter symbols, but I believe Yahoo let's you choose by name. read the articles if confused, but mostly pick something with high potential (Bank stocks are depressed now with low earnings but could get goosed by another Fed rate cut on Hallowe'en). Construction/Home Center (Lowe's Home Depot) stocks could see boost from CA wildfires (after the fire someone's going to rebuild, right?). Or you could short a stock like Apple, which has catapulted to $180/share on the back of cheap, but flashy electronics that retail for 20-30 the cost to manufacture.
Good luck. |

Look in the Wall Street Journal (the newspaper or online) and pick a stock that looks interesting.
The financial section of a paper will tell you what the numbers and stuff mean (like splits and points and stuff like that.)
And I wouldn't put it in just one company. Aren't you supposed to pick three stocks? I had to pick three in my eco classes.
I'd say, pick one that isn't too expensive (it's too late to buy, say, Google) and seems to have steady growth. At the time, I picked Gillette (they were a great pick, because they were doing a lot of razor research and development--good for stock values) and a cell-phone company and a candy company.
You can always trade later if they suck. |

Go to a library and look up the Value Line Investment Survey material. They analyze hundreds of stocks and give you a lot of information on each. Look over their materials and you will soon have a good idea how to look for stocks in which to invest. |

Just put it all into EXM (Excel Maritime Shipping) which is on the New York Stock Exchange; the Baltic Dry Index (shipping rates) are at an all-time high and the stock is expected to gain 50% within the next year. Go to Yahoo! Finance and type in EXM and check out the charts. This stock has risen steadily at least 10% a week for the last six months straight with no immediate signs of stopping (other than the recent bounce which has been due to the entire stock market decrease). I bought the real life stock in November 2005 at $13/share and it's up around $80 now. Good luck! |
