22 carat gold is that bit harder, and I recommend that as the highest carat for jewellery, especially chains. 24 carat is too soft unless it's very thick.

18 carat is most popular in the West, or in the UK even 9 carat is popular.

www.goldpalace.com is a good place to see some 22 carat stuff. Big Indian population in the UK too that all choose 22carat.

Personally I only have 22 carat except for one 24 carat ring that is thick and custom made, and it scratches and dents really easil but I like the 'patina' it has gained from wear. It wouldn't at all be a good idea on a chain with such small components.

You might want to consider Palladium because that's becoming increasingly valuable lately!!! just remember, Platinum started off the same way until it became popular in jewellery.

Do not buy 22k, 23k, or 24k gold. 24k gold is pure gold. It is soft. Buy 14k gold for jewelry. Nobody is going to ask to read the gold content of your jewelry. If you want to be real smart, do not buy any jewelry. Invest in a good no-load mutual index fund. Traditional IRA and Roth IRA. You will be glad you did.

22 karate is worth for ornaments and day to day use with required hardness for use. 24 k is soft and unworthy of making ornaments. Banks and other bullion merchants deal in 24 k gold.

and when thy mix copper go like 22/ 18 then 14.
beast gold is 24 but jewelry can not be made with 24 because it is very soft so best option is 22

Jewelry is not a great form in which to invest in gold. I would suggest gold coins issued by different governments around the world. You never have to have them assayed. If you go to sell bullion or jewelry, the buyer will probably want to have it assayed to see the true purity and that will cost you money. There's none of that hassle with coins.
