Hi, reading the previous entries I hope you have a fair idea of the large number of brokerage houses operating in India. I have been a user of ICICI Direct and must add that it is very convenient and user friendly. But the rates!! For a trader, it is really prohibitive. Almost one percent will be taken off when you buy and also when you sell, ie, at each trade. So that gives you an idea of how much the share must move if you are to get anything at all.
I think it is time for the regulatory authorities to come up with a standard rate. When the rates are brought down, the trades will pick up and that would mean, more earnings for brokerage houses and also for the exchequer. And also something for the poor guy who does the actual trading. True, that they have put together the infrastructure and maintains it beautifully... But the rates are really very high. |

Based on your parameters, ICICIDirect ( approach ICICI Bank ) seems the only best brokerage house. All the accounts ( trading, demat and banking) are linked and automatic debits / credits are done.
So far learning about stock ideas and investing, ICICIDirect has a very exhaustive section on its website. It sends periodic newsletters by email about investment ideas. They have also got a vast research section.
