Compound Interest and a Long time horizon.. |

Put it into a savings bank with interest then wait for a long time.
Or, if you are smart then you could obviously invest it into a business.
Or, if you are lazy, go get a calculator and multiply 100 by 10 and the 500 by 2.. congrats, you got your 1 million |

Investing wisely is the slower, safer, way to do it, could take a few years, or you could get lucky and do surprisingly well.
Risky investing is a way to do it faster.
I've heard and seen many stories of people losing it all because they were too eager to get quick returns and didn't thoroughly investigate what they were getting into. |

Do what the seriously rich people do. Put it in a hedge fund. |

Like anything just invest and be patient. Typically the equity markets return 12% annualized in the long term so if you were to invest in an index fund and left the money alone you would have $1 million dollars in approx 20 years, or with a base of $500, 00 in 6 to 7 years...Otherwise there are riskier investments like a hedge fund, or just buying your own business and growing it yourself |

Import illegal substances or other illegal things illegally. These typically will sell for much higher, although there might be some risk involved! :P |

If this is mad money--money you don't truly need--I would put it into the Chinese stock market or certain commodities, such as oil or agriculture stocks. But the timing probably isn't right right now, and those markets are volatile. (The Chinese market is down far more than the US market.) But with world growth, a long term horizon would probably reap rewards of huge magnatude. |

I would leverage you assets. Buy some rental real estate. Put the 100k down and leverage it. Over time your tenant will pay down you debt and hopfully your property will appreciate. |

Compound Interest, tax deferred, with principal safely protected from downturns and invested for a decade or 2.
Law of 72, take 72 and divide it by the interest rate you're making, tells you how much time it will take to double your money. It takes 3 doubling periods to grow $100K to $800K, 4 doubling periods to grow $100K to $1.6MM. At 10%, 1 doubling period = 7.2 years, so in 21.6 years you'd have $800K.
Downside risk is hugely important, and so is tax deferral. Let me use an example of the S&P Index. Let's assume that you invest $200K on 2/15/98 and let it ride for 10 years. There were 4 down years during that time. If you made nothing and lost nothing in the down years here's the difference in the value of the account:
Riding the market up and down your $200K would be worth about $217K. Making and losing nothing in the down years, but making the profits in the up years your account would be worth $386K.
There are products that allow you to protect your principal and make aggressive tax deferred gains (25 yr avg 9.6% doubling in an avg of 8yrs year over year in S&P) so in 24 years your $100K would be worth $800K+ if the future performs similarly to the past. Isn't that always the trick.
Safety, Liquidity & Rate of Return. Those are the things I'm looking for to get $100K to a Million. |

Wait for a bubble in the market. Wait until prices are irrational then short sell. This is the way the pros make money. What goes up, must come down. |

You could just get into stocks, or create bonds, or become apart of a 401K plan. These are all simple ways, but it also takes luck and time for business to thrive and for you money to mature so then your profits will increase. With a half a million dollars it would happen awfully quicker then with 100,000 dollars. |
