Benjamin Franklin | How can I make about $150-200/daily in the stock market? |
I am interested in day trading, buying and selling stocks in the same day. A friend of mine invested $25,000, and usually ends up making at least $2,000/monthly, working as a fully time day trader. I know it is not easy and there will be loses on some days, but which companies are good to invest in, short term? My friend has given me a few suggestions, but i would like some more (please). Thanks in advance to all those who answer. Serious answers only please.
P.S. I am only doing this because I have lost my job and have a family to support. I have had no luck finding a job and I am still searching, so until I do find a job, I would think its smart to try and make at least a little money to keep my expenses going. All helps is greatly appreciated! Thanks again! |

90% of day traders end up like poker players - broke.
If you want to make that each day, you'll start with 25K or more - maybe you'll be lucky, and do good for a week. Then go get a real job. |

I was thinking the same thing as you several years ago. I have followed the stock market closely for 10 years, and read several day trading books and did other various research on how to make money doing this. I eventually gave up the idea, when I researched statistics of those who actually make money. Most people lose money, because the market is very efficient, and you have to pay money to both buy and sell the stock. The transaction fees put day traders at a disadvantage.
Basically, it is possible, but very very difficult. The statistics are stacked against you, and a lot more people fail than succeed. |

I have traded shares professionally and personally for many years. I guarantee you your friend is either lying to you, or will be wiped out one day because he is taking a massive risk.
The market is very efficient, and I have never seen or heard of anybody consistently make materially more than the return on the stock market. The more risk you take, the more you can make; but the more you could lose very quickly as well.
You have a family to support, which makes it doubly important not to take big risks. As somebody who knows the business, I urge you to avoid day trading and ignore the claims of those who say they know the secrets.
If you are still keen on trying your luck: my advice is to trade options. You need relatively little capital to get large exposures. Some people like to buy puts and calls; I like to sell covered calls if I want to sell a stock, and to sell puts in order to buy stock at a discount. I don't like trading naked options themselves, because I cannot consistently make a profit. Remember, and I guarantee you will realise this if you decide to play with fire - the market is efficient.
Focus on getting a job, or starting a business, or training up. This pays off much more in the long run, and will bring much less stress and heartache. |

Personally, I do not believe it would be a good idea to begin day trading under your particular circumstances. Too much emotion would prohibit you from making decisions that are not affected by the thought that if you lose the money you will not make the house payment. Too many people think day trading is a quick and easy way to make money, however, they fail to even consider that it is also a quick and easy way to lose money. Lots of it.
The majority of day traders are out of money and no longer able to trade within six months.
All that being said, if you still insist upon giving it a try, get yourself educated about trading and then develop a plan that you will stick by. There are many books available. One you might wish to consider is "Tools and Tactics for the Master Day Trader", by Oliver Velez and Greg Capra. There are also some good Web sites available to help you learn such as http://www.investopedia.com/ and http://www.tradingacademy.com/
I want to repeat my earlier advice, however, and that is not to get involved at this time. You have a long learning curve, you have a lot of emotional baggage (i.e. no job, family, expenses, etc) that will get in your way, and you in all likelihood will lose your money. Spend your time getting something, anything that will bring in a paycheck.
Best of luck to you whichever way you decide upon. |

Like what the other poster's have replied, you'd probably be better of at a job, any job. The thing is you're not suppose to listen to anyone's negativity but focus on yourself. That's what I have to tell myself. |
