You don't say how old you are. Please have your parents read my profile and send me an email. There are many things you can do for yourself but you should have a professional help you. Its refreshing to have a young person like yourself ask a question like this. |

Go to school and have a dream......but please go to school and apply yourself.....a lot of people say college and uni is just for the piece of paper, but if you want, you can re-discover yourself at these places.....have a dream and work towards it......it wont be easy getting there, but once you do, you will be content.......if you can work side-by-side, then do that too, it will reduce the burden on your parents.......but make the right decisions and don drop out jus cause you make 50 large a year, there is a bigger picture.....look at it....good luck |

savings and CDs with good interest rates. You are going to need that money for rent, moving, all those things that require money, right now I wouldn't invest it, I keep it in an account with as high a rate of interest as I could find (4-5%).
The only long term thing you might consider is a Roth IRA. Roth is a savings vehicle that you designate - you can invest the money in anything (stocks, bonds, funds, cash) but it is designate a Roth IRA and would be a great way to save for retirement (you are never too young, I started at 27, wish I'd have started earlier). |

Well first off by doing well in your classes, that will most definitely help your future. But start a 401k or IRA account and put money in there every paycheck or anytime you have the money to spare. Its better the earlier you start. and if your working, I know as a full time student many don't, alot of employers will match your contribution to the 401k. Good luck and smart thinking. |

You don't give many specifics so it's hard for me to offer specific advice. However, there are some guidelines.
1. Financial concerns are not the only parameters for a good life. Learn what brings you personal joy, and find ways to refine and enhance that. Your future is more than just your financial success.
2. Make it a habit to live on less than you have. If you get an allowance, save part of it EVERY TIME you receive it. If you have a job, save part of every paycheck. If you spend ever cent you have, you will never accumulate wealth, and you may well bury yourself in belongings at the expense of having the freedom to find personal fulfillment. Your future is not about your stuff...it's about your life. Remember the proverb - it is a rich man who knows he has "enough."
3. Invest in your own future: money you spend on education is rarely wasted. I would advise you to learn a bit about the markets out there before you go into debt for an education, though. I have a niece that went into debt to become a financial analyst, but she lives in a town that has few opportunities. She would have been better off financially to focus on something she could have used locally, since she does not want to move.
4. Invest in your own skills. Don't look for shortcuts to getting things done. Learn to do tasks for yourself. Even if down the road you choose to hire those tasks done, you'll be better able to evaluate the work others do, and you'll have a better sense of what work is required to get ahead in your chosen field.
5. STUDY. Learn from the opportunities you have in front of you. Recognize that life isn't a microwave potato, and that most things take time, effort and attention to turn out well. Allow yourself the time to do the work. |
