Definitely. Generally, you don't invest any money to get a job. The "jobs" you see on the internet that require you to pay a "membership fee" aren't really jobs.

Get a job and stay away from all of the advertisements that tell you how fast somebody earned enough money to pay off credit card bills or their mortgage using a proven secret method that they will sell you. Those just take your money and leave you with nothing.

It's possible to make money without investing anything. But not just by getting a job.

You can:

1. Write out your business plan (goto sba.gov for some advice on that... and you can check out e-myth.com for a detailed analysis).

2. Solicit wealthy and upper-middle class people to invest money in you and your idea. To do this properly, you'll probably have to take out a small business loan for expenses like renting a meeting hall/auditorium to pitch your idea, paying for a few power lunches, putting together some brochures (you can get graphic design students to do this for peanuts and a line on their resume, or goto elance.com to get this done on the cheap), and incorporating your business.

3. Work like a dog for a few years, for no to practically no pay... but just be sure you're building a system, and not just owning a job. You can tell you own a system when you can leave for a year, and when you come back the business is actually stronger even without you.

Of course, by then it probably won't feel like work. It's more like giving birth, really... but eventually it has to move out on its own...

If nobody built businesses, where would we get our jobs?

Basically when you get a job, you are trading your time with money. For example, you get paid $10/hr means one hour of your time yielded $10.
If you are able to increase your value, say get paid $100/hr, for the same amount of time, you now yield $90 more.
Can you invest some of this money then for returns that are hundred times more?
Technically, the $90 used for investing in not money, right?
On a more serious note, there are people that use money to make money. Or people that buy property with no money down(using other people's money). But you need to have experience in such a field.
Money is just a medium
