How do I become a stockbroker?
Am new at this and know nothing about it.

So why do you want to be one if you know nothing about it?

Doc
You need you FINRA licenses.
A Series 7 will let you trade securities, stocks etc.
Then you'd need a 66 which will let you give advice to people.

You can't hold the licenses independently so you'd need to get sponsored by a firm, like Merrill Lynch, Edward Jones, Morgan Stanley etc.

Thomas D
find a firm that will hire you as an associate. Then pass a minimum of a Series 7 and most likely a Series 63.

In the US - You need to be an employee of a Broker/Dealer so they can sponsor you in order to become a licensed stock broker. So get out your resume and start walking the street

Firms usually want college graduates, but it is not really necessary nor really a requirement but many firms like it and make it their requirement.
Bank broker/dealers usually want all the sales reps to be college graduates.

Your college major is not important, (No courses in the Academic world prepare you to be a broker). But since your coming into the world of Finance, some of the more helpful majors would be Finance, Accounting, Economics or Statistics.

You should be good at math and have a decent idea about the stock market.

You should be good at selling, and it would help if you have an outgoing personality.

So if you‘re good at sales, or have a good sales background in place of a college degree, you’re part way there.

Try to get with any major brokerage firm, they will put you through an in-house training program, which is primarily getting you ready to take the necessary test for licenses. You will need a Series 7 which is a General Securities Brokers test, and a Series 6 which is just for state approvals.

Most brokerage firms, except bank B/Ds, will put you on salary and once you have passed the test, they will slowly take you off salary and put you on commission basis pay out. Banks will usually keep you on salary.

If you have your choice, you’re always better going to work for a regular B/D rather than a bank - You will learn, faster, better and the proper way of how the industry works. As a broker for a B/D you can always find another B/D that will hire you or at the worse, you can always work for a bank.
But if you’re Bank B/D trained and licensed, it’s very difficult to go work for a regular B/D

Depends how old you are, you must have a high school degree, most banks, firms want a college degree in order to trade. But approach any wirehouse, Merrill Lynch, Smith Barney, Lehman Brothers, BNY, etc. apply for a entry level job, you will have to take a couple tests in order to be lisensed, Series 6,7 maybe even life/health insurance tests.. they will surely give you a phone book and put you in a cubical to make cold calls everyday all day at the very least.. but get a degree and you will already start higher up.. talk about an internship if you dont have a degree or if your still looking. Stockbrokers are salesmen, so you best be a smooth talker and very socialable.

Go to college and get a Bachelor's in Finance, pass the Series-7 exam, go work for Charles Schwab or other broker firm.

Ok, im a not a stock brocker but it is something i am considering doing when i leave my schooling.
Not sure about the US, but in the UK there is no specific degree's required to become a stock brocker.
But, employee's usually look for some sort of business degree e.g.
Finance
Economics

Maybe you should first get to know exactly what stock brocking is before you decide.
www.bullbearings.co.uk
is a good site to learn how the stock market works.
Relatively user friendly.
You will need to read some stuff on the internet and maybe a book as well.
An interesting person to read up on is Warren Buffet.
Hope i helped.
