You need to read and learn. Morningstar.com has a free "classroom" which is a good place to start. Also, Investopedia.com is a great site for learning everything about the market and investing.

Firstly you have to learn more about the market, like market policies, trends etc. If you do not play well in the market you have to lose money.

To understand it. and its not a game there is real money to be gained or loss. if you don't want to learn how for yourself get a really good investor.

Little book that beats the market, Greenblatt

It sounds like you are not doing your homework and reading and given you are approaching "investing/trading" as an amateur, you will be "eaten" by the seasoned pros. I would go to Amazon and pick up some books from Cliff Pistolese, or John Murphy's visual investor. You will have to read money management books like Trading like a business and then looking at Valueline in the library to put together your stock watch list. If you are not willing to do this, I would advise that you invest in a stock index mutual fund until you get more knowledge. I would also talk to friends and get their input. To take trading/investing lightly, you will lose money and give it to people like me because you buy at the wrong time(at the top of the market when the mkt has shown it can go up) or you sell too late and I am picking it up when the mkt has shown a resistance area. Money management and discipline is the key.

Just like someone said its not a game, but unlike most I treat it like a game u can lose it all tho but you need practice.
Forget all of the sites with 100,000 in play money, you probably wont have 100 thous to put on the market yet but you can in the future. If you have Aol, I suggest you make a portfolio for simulation. After youve made this portfolio jus estimate how much you would be prepared to invest and spend within those limits plus commision this is so you learn how to manage your own money its not real so you can make some mistakes. And just learn on from there. Thats how did it, I read a bunch of sites and they really didnt help that much so I jus learned from experence. And no im not in college still in HS age is 18

Results may vary some people get things quicker and become wiser then others.

The Stock Market IS NOT A GAME.

If you want to play then buy "Sid Meier's Railroads!"

There is no one way that the stock market works. Many different people approach it in different ways (phases of the moon, fundamental factors, news, technical factors).

The best way to begin in the stock market is to learn from someone who is already successful in the market. Personally I learned a lot from Bill Poulos. He has a (expensive) course on stock trading that taught me the method I use now.

But that's what you need to do. Find someone (like a Bill Poulos) who is successful in the market, and then model that person's trading.

I think the best way to learn about the stock market is to first see what the best traders are buying and selling and why. You can find this information at http://www.top10traders.com - this is a free site that lets you create a portfolio of stocks with $100,000 in "play" money. Each day the site ranks the best performing portfolios, so you can see how your picks perform compared to other investors. You can read posts on investing from the best traders, as well as share your own investing ideas. There is a charting feature, so you can see how your portfolio performs compared to the S&P 500. Also, you can create your own "group" so that you can see how you are doing compared to your friends.

Here are this month's best traders:

http://www.top10traders.com/Top10Standings.aspx

Good luck.
