I have some money I would like to invest and I would like to get started buying stock!
Can some one tell me how I would even go about buying stock? I want to do it my self and not pay a person. Is there a program one can download to buy and sell stock?
I really have alot of questions, more than can be asked on yahoo. What I'm looking for is an email or IM user name so I can open a dialogue with some one.
Thanks ahead of time. Additional Details Is $7 a trade the average?
Also I want to start small, I'm willing to loose a couple of dollars ($10-50) to begin with but I dont want to start out and loose 1000-5000.

First, you have to use a registered brokerage firm to trade stock for you. The good news is that there are a number of very good online trading companies. I use scottrade.com but there are other good ones as well. You will have to pay a small fee per trade - scottrade is $7 to buy, $7 to sell.
There is a difference between online brokers and "full service" brokers who charge a higher fee, but supposedly give you investment advice. These days most people go the online broker route.
Trading stock is not a sure way to make money - just look at what happened today. You have to be educated and have a strategy. To start your education, I would watch the show "Mad Money" on CNBC at 6 pm (ET). Go to GOOD web sites like CNBC and investors.com. Beware, there are many bad investing web sites; definitely do not believe everything you read.
Good luck! |

Interactive Brokers is the cheapest active trader broker at about $1-2 per trade. Zecco.com will let you have about 10 trades per month for free. But remember, the money you place with a broker is not insured by FDIC. Most have SIPC insurance, but that's private, not federal. |

I would first like to suggest that you postpone stock investment at this time. This is the worst market I've seen in my lifetime, even for the pros. A beginner shoud not jump in now. The best use of your time would be to study the market and how to trade. The vast majority of traders lose money. Even the best traders typically lost a lot of money before they started to get regular winning trades. A trading account can be obtained from the major players like Fidelity Investments. Scottrade is another. Once opening an account with them and meeting their minimum balance requirements, you can obtain their trading software and trade from your sofa. I use Fidelity Active Trader Pro software. Again, sit on your hands and study for a while, otherwise you will likely lose your money very quickly. |

You should open an account with a discount broker like Scottrade or TD Ameritrade. Then you can buy and sell online, however you will have to pay a small fee everytime you buy or sell. |

I am with etrade.com - also very easy to understand. I started with this book: The Wall Street Journal - Guide to understanding money & markets: http://www.amazon.com/Street-Journal-Guide-Understanding-Investing/dp/0684869020
Very good.
I am now learning how to monitor the market.
