To have a decent chance you'd have to use massive leverage--options on stocks or futures on commodities or currencies. Even people who know a lot about investing are more likely to lose everything in a year than multiply their money by 10 in a year. Since you don't know anything about high-stakes investing you'd have a much better chance betting red or black on a roulette wheel. If you called it right 4 times in a row and "reinvested" all your winnings, you'd wind up with $160,000. The odds of that happening are somewhat less than 1 in 16. I'd guess the odds of an amateur making 1,000 per cent in a year trading options or futures are less than 1 in 500, maybe more like 1 in 10,000
