I have opened several online accounts. I prefer Scottrade the best. Go to their website, fill out application, send or transfer initial required contribution, and do the buying/selling on-line. $7 per trade. Very reasonable compared to my broker ($70-$100) per trade. |

Open an account with a discount broker. Look at the best mutual funds and see what they have bought. Do not just use one company to look for stocks.Do lots of research. |

OK, and this comes from a guy that OWN's an Analysts Firm. Choose a Product or Industry Sector that interests you. Then look at all of the players within that spectrum. Choose who(whom) you think will likekely dominate that sector. Determine where that firm is in the life cycle of the product that dominates, and run with that firm for the short term (1 month to 2 years for example). Always pay attention to the products eventual replacement, and where you are in that cycle. NEVER laugh your way to the bank, if you did not choose the absolute high, know that you choose well. |
