How do you find who owns shares in a bank?

you might consider going to yahoo finance. For many banks they have a listing of the largest share holders. The information though is not current. People have been liquidating their bank holding like mad and for good reason.

Here are the major holders of BBT

The top major holders are listed in most good financial websites or company fact books, Hemscott.; yahoo.finance etc. However these may only show nominee holders rather than the beneficial owners/ To get a full list contact the Company Registrars and ask for the appropriate form. This will cost about £75 depending on the number of shareholders. Again it will give you Nominee names where shares are held as such.

Ususally the major shareholders are disclosed in the SEC filings. If you want to know EVERY sharholder....good luck!!!!

Hi there,

Good question. You can take a sneak peek in my book - The Young Investor at http://books.google.com/books?isbn=1425152120 click the "Preview the book" link and enter "insider trading" in the search box. Read page 75 and you will see links to websites listing inside trades.

A nobody
Really can't
I you have to deteremine is the bank publically held, if it's not there's no way you're going to get a shareholder list nor are you entitled.

You can go to the Banks's website or Yahoo Finance, check for who the insiders are,What this will give you is all the insiders, which will include management owning moe than 5% and all the outsiders who own 5%.
You could go to the bank's shareholders service area and they may be able to help, but they may refer you to the transfer agent
If you a stockholder in the bank, you can request a list from the transfer agent. You will have to give reason for your request, and there may be charge.

good luck

that is privileged information.

the bank has a disclosure statement...your stock broker!

You have to do a "Lexis Nexis" search. If you do it on-line, there IS A charge.

If you go to your local library, perhaps the information librarian will be of assistance.

Thanks for asking your Q! I enjoyed answering it!
