A depression has nothing to do with the stock market. A depression is when Americans purchase less then they did the previous quarter (3 months = one quarter). Two quarters (6 months) of declining purchases equals a depression.
In 1929 it was far worse then it is today. |

Market crashes have nothing to do with a Depression. A Depression is an economic event not a market event. Its usually when there is deflation and prices go down, or hyperinflation. Very high unemployment. And a drop in GDP. All for an extended amount of time. |

Jordan is an idiot. It's that typical American attitude that is getting us in trouble. I personally think things are going to get pretty bad before they get better. The government bailing the banks out just is a little band aid on a jugular vein that is spewing forth blood. What you worry about more than the Dow Jones industrial is other indicators that measure how much the banks trust each other and right now, sorry to say, they do not trust each other at all which means BIG TROUBLE. Our economy is built on greed, lies, political correctness, pride, etc, etc, etc and IT IS FALLING BECAUSE OF IT. I am not an economic expert but I do know a house built on sand will fall. This country and it's monetary system is nothing but debt. Money is debt in this country and debt is money. It's complex but that is the way it is and has been going on that way since about 1914. It's a screwed up system. Pray. |

i heard o cnbc that experts are expecting it to bottom out at around 8000. Today it fell 400 points in a matter of minutes from 9000 to 8600, so I dont know how much truth there is to their predictions. They also said that they can now classify this as a stock market crash, so I guess we are basically in a mild depression. So if it goes below 7500, I would buckle down for a rough ride. |
