Each company that pays dividends has a certain date (called the "ex-dividend date") that acts as a cut-off. If you own the stock on the ex-dividend date, you get the dividend, even if you just bought it that morning.
Note that the dollar value of a share of stock generally goes down by the amount of the dividend per share on the ex-dividend date. For example, if I own a share of stock worth $20, and it pays a $1 dividend, the price per share will probably be around $19 after the ex-dividend date. As such, you can't make money by buying shares the day before the ex-dividend date and then selling them the day after. |

Oh! It's immediate, well once the company has your records so that it know where or how to send the money to you.
The company MAY have its own rules, and you will need to investigate them on your OWN. Day trading is such the RAGE these days that the company fears sending money to the wrong people. *shrug* |

When companies have a profit they either put it in their retained earnings or they will split the profit among the shareholders (dividends). Some companies do this regularly but it is not required. So if they are trying to save there may not be any dividends for awhile, or if they could pay out every quarter. |

Each company pays out on different dates, so as long as you own the stock on that day you will receive the dividend. |

You need to own the stock on the ex-dividend date. If you bought the stock the day before the ex-dividend date, then you should receive a dividend almost immediately. If you bought the stock the day after the ex-dividend date, then you most wait until after the next ex-dividend date.
Many stocks do not pay dividends at all. |

If you know ex-dividend date, you can be in and out in three or four days to capture the dividend. |
