I don't have all my eggs in one basket..., But I did lose some,on paper.

If you lost your nest egg from a ~10% loss in the market then I'd say you're doing something wrong with stocks and should stick to mutual funds.

I doubt any lost all of their nest egg, but most nest eggs got smaller, I am sure. Mine didn't because I bailed from stocks last year. The reasons were quite apparent long ago, actually, but reality doesn't find it's way to CNBC often enough.

My paper loss was in line with the overall loss, but I've now been through this enough that it no longer makes me nervous.

It is a reminder though, that even in good times, when the monthly statements are wonderful, we need to re-balance our portfolio.
