There's a really easy way to work that out in your head.
25% is a quarter right?
So you just need to half the amount twice.
Half of $15 is $7.50
Half of $7.50 is $3.75
If you half something twice you get a quarter which is 25%.
To visualize it, imagine cutting a pizza in half once, and then one of those halves in half again. You'd have a quarter of a pizza, 1/4th or 25% of the original pizza.

10% is 1.5
Another 10% (that's now 20%) is another 1.5, so we're up to 3.0 now.
5 % is half of 1.5, which is 0.75
Add the 20% to the 5% means add 3 to 0.75
The answer is 3.75.
Alternatively 25% means 1/4. So take 15 and divide by 4. Same answer.

You change the 25% to a decimal, which becomes .25 and you perform the usual multiplication. That is the way you get the answer. Remember, changing a percent to a decimal, you move the decimal point two spaces to the left. In 25% the decimal point is unseen, therefore, it is after the 5, or 25.%.
