Check out these 2 sites:
Sharebuilders.com and
Ameritrade. You can get started with very little money and buy every 2 weeks or month and that way you get shares built up.
Sharebuilders has a lot of really good information for learning about companies and how well you would have done if you had invested in so and so company like a year ago, etc. Good luck. |
|

The answer is 42.

Generally, $500 for IRAs or retirement accounts. $2000 for a non-retirement accounts.
Since you are getting started, I'd go with a mutual fund; or more specifically, and index fund. Try VFINX. It followsthe stock market and has a very low fee.
Go to Yahoo! Finance and type in VFIX and read up on it... |

I don't mean to be rude, but honestly, if you're asking such questions, your best bet would be to stay away from the stock market.
Nonetheless, to answer your question, you can open an account on eTrade with $100. But consider this a hobby or entertainment (i.e. gambling). You're not going to get rich playing the stock market. |

To think about making a profit, a recommended minimum is 10K. You need to buy a few stocks at least, to get some diversification. |

Minimum isn't the problem, even though you need at least $500, but closer to $1,000.
The problem being, that the most risky investment is a single stock, no matter how blue chip (good), because it is all your eggs in one basket, many things can happen to one stock.
Start investing with a "balanced Mutual Fund" at your bank.
This is a basket of Stocks, bonds and money market instruments, that give good diversification and are relatively low on the risk scale compared with stocks. |
