How powerful is the technical analysis of shares of stock market?
The support level & resistance level if followed closely can help to pick up bright stock.

Its powerful because alot of traders subscribe to it. Lets face it the market is run by people not numbers. See what everyone else sees and you catch a good pick. I subscribe to the band wagon theory. However don't ignore fundamentals. Try to find a good combo that works with your strategy.

One more thing, TA is more important to Day, Swing, and Pattern (Shortterm) Traders. However longterm investors still look at charts.

It is an easy way to make a small fortune...out of a large fortune!

TA only "finds" things that have already happened. It really has no way of predicting the future. If you buy a over-priced stock just because of some mumbo-jumbo sequence of squiggles in the chart, you are going to lose over the long term.

Go to the Motley Fool website and start reading.

One should never rely solely on technical analysis. Instead, he/she should look into the fundamentals of a stock by examining financial statements, valuation analysis, future earnings power, and etc. Of course, a due diligence should always incorporate both quantitative and qualitative aspects of an equity. Look at the company's competitive advantage, sustainable pricing strategy, business model, competition, and etc.

Now, the technical analysis part of your due diligence should primarily be used for finding out whether or not it's a good timing. You may have a stock that's undervalued and has a significant upward catalyst that is sure to drive up the value of its stock, but that particular moment might not be the most attractive moment for purchasing the stock.

Bottom line is:

Technical analysis should never be your primary research tool, rather a secondary tool that tells you whether or not this is an attractive trading time.

Good luck,

Disclosure:

Don't buy into any specific investment idea or w/e is written by me here. Your loss/gain on your investment has nothing to do with me. I am just expressing my own view and opinion.

It's only as good as you make it to be. Investing is finding situations with as many odds in your favor as possible. TA is a tool that helps you do that - along with fundamental analysis, market trends, etc. It's not 100% fool proof but if you know how to use it, it will help you identify stocks that are more likely to run.

i think it's powerful but it would be more powerful if you combine it with fundamental analysis.

Technical analysis basically can help you with the following information.

1. Entry Point
2. Cut lost point

You have to know one of the complete set knowledge before you can enter. Use part of the technical analysis might guild you to another disaster.

Try Stan's Weinstein's Secrets for profiting in bull and bear markets. In this book also help you to chose stock, how to find your entry point and how to find your cut lost point.

Technical analysis will help you with better change in the market. It is not a 100 % win win method. You might lost here and there but cut lost point will help you to min your lost.

Money can be made by buying and selling stocks using technical analysis. The buy and sell rules will be your system and should be back tested for profitability under bull and bear market conditions. The volume of shares being traded needs to be also considered with the stock price movements. Support levels may be previous stock price levels and/or 20 or 50 day moving averages. The current system rules I am using net Gains/Losses > 5/1 with annual returns of 30%. It takes a commitment to do this as a buy, sell or hold decision must be made daily.

It depends on your taste for investing. There are certain investors that ONLY trust technical analysis and others who swear by fundamental analysis. But you need a little bit of both.

Technical analysis is powerful, if you know how to follow trading patterns (i.e: head and shoulder, flag and pinion, etc.) You basically answered your own question "he support level & resistance level if followed closely can help to pick up bright stock."

You should look at odd-lot transaction indicator too, so you can bet against small investors.

** in addition to pondering's statement:

the stock market, in general, is AFTER the fact. So that label shouldnt just be left on technical analysis. Future dividend payments are factored into the fair-market price of the stock.
