Don't put all your eggs in one basket!
1.If you want to gamble try 20% - 25% in the stock market. Self select your own companies and open an on-line share account ... ie Halifax etc. Shares can become an interesting hobby but be prepared to either loose or make lots of money!
Better returns by investing in AIM shares but you can loose money. LSE 100 top stocks with dividend is more secure.
You can 'make' up to £7800 per year tax free. You could also loose a high percentage of your investment!
2.Another [max] £3000 into a cash isa. Secure and tax free.
3.Premium bonds £8000 - £10000. Should return 3% on average. Secure.
4.Remainder into a postal account for highest interest available. Secure.
NB ....If you need 'ready' cash put 20% - 25% of the postal account into a 'high interest' account so you can withdraw cash on demand. Secure.

Premium bonds. I bought 20,000 worth while saving for a deposit on my apartment and won lots of prizes - total return came to more the banks paid in interest on deposit accounts, and the investment is totally safe as you are guaranteed to get at least the 20,000 back

Premium bonds?
Yes there is a gamble but you will not be taxed on any winnings and your £20000 is safe and if you need to withdraw any you can. With this amount you should win about £50 per month tax free! (stats from NS&I, I know someone with about £25k who is getting back about £100 tax free per month!)
