1) Open a brokerage account (www.scottrade.com, www.tradeking.com, www.etrade.com, etc)
2) Buy shares of what are called exchange traded funds. These are mutual funds that trade on stock exchanges like stocks. Buying shares in a fund that holds the stocks in a market index like the S&P 500 allows you to own stock in 500 different companies which reduces the liklihood that you'll accidentally pick a bad stock.
Two that follow the S&P 500 are the ishares fund (ivv) and the spdr fund (spy).
3) Sit on the money. Over the long term it should go up very nicely. |
