Are you in a lot of debt? If you are, I'd do it until you paid off your debts.
If you do go ahead with it, form a plan that you'll stick to. For example, give it a beginning and an end. Say, if you move in, you'll live there for 9 months and save x amt. of $$, and then move out and buy a place of your own. Figure out a real monthly budget based on your income, and see how much you'd save, and make that your target goal.
Let me ask you this, though. Since you seem to be doing pretty well on your own, would it be possible for your parents to give you a down payment on a house or condo? Maybe if they see how responsible you're being they'll help you get started. Lots of families help their kids buy their first property.
Are you just doing it so that you can have money to invest? If that's the case I would not do it. |

why would you lose freedom? if you are responsible you will do the right thing and not act like a complete adolescent in the home you grew up in...being a child is one thing ...but now that you are an adult.....have responsiblities and a future to look forward to.....don't leave all the housework to your parents...you are capable of helping out by keeping your living area clean and tidy....helping with the cooking or cleaning and laundry, buying groceries occasionally or even paying something to the extra expense of utilities since they will go up with you living there again ...show them you are an adult and you will be treated like one...... |

My uncle pursued this strategy at about your age in the late 70's. He is now 54 and still lives in my grandmother's basement. At 26, you are emphatically an adult - and while $32000/year may not quite be conducive to a life of luxury, neither is it representative of the true penury that might justify parasitising a family member. Cancel a few premium channels, and retain the ability to face yourself in the mirror each morning. |

I think the fact that you are earning 32,000 a year is great. You definetly do not have to move in with your parents to save money, at least not necessarily. Educate yourself on the facet of investing. Read investment books, investment guides such as forbes, barron's ect. Invest at least 10% of your income. Expand your assets and try to shrink your liability column. But overall definetly leave moving in with your parents as a last resort. Freedom is life, and life is enjoyable because of freedom. |
