I'm holding 235 shares of NTPC Should I hold or Sell at the current CMP?
Im shor term inverstor

There are dummies holding a paper company by the name Reliance Power that is involved in the same business as NTPC is. They are holding this paper company that promises to produce as much power after 5-6 years as NTPC is already generating. These dummies are holding Reliance Power at infinite Price/Earnings ratio (as this company is not producing anything). You would be much wiser than these guys if you hold NTPC at its current price. Rest all depends on NTPC's balance sheets and its profitability (I have not studied its numbers in greater detail) and your patience with shares. Believe me - holding stock investments require lot of patience. Its no easy money.

Only you can decide it. You may sell it or hold it. But consider some facts. You can sell, Even if with a lose, at the current market scenario and if you capable of getting more by investing other shares, then you can sell. You can hold it for getting more in near future or distant future. But in my opinion, if you get around 15% gain you should sell it. for stock advise, visit

You have to judge it yourself. It depends how much profit you have earned and how much you are looking for. (you have not mentioned your buy price).

Moreover, NTPC is a long term bet. It's not a short term investment.
If you are a short term investor, and if you are earning decent profit you can exit from the stock.

I am holding NTPC shares since last 3 years. It has gone upto 284 before market crashed in Jan-2008 It is very good co and giving every year dividend to their share holders. It is better to hold instead of sell as the market will be stable in the near future and share prices of NTPC will again reached to 250 very quickly. Here any one can think to sell.

You are holding NTPC which is much cheaper than other power sector stocks. You said you invest for the short term, thus you should trade more to generate the income from the NTPC.

Now budget is on the door step and market can see the level it has seen in jan (21000) again as this is the last budget before the election. So many suprises can come up, With some good news to power sector,

Thus I suggest you to hold the stock, still if you are having some doubt in the mind whether to hold or release the stock follow following instruction.

Sell 100 NTPC at CMP.

Buy 100 NTPC at sold value - 5Rs.

Sell 100NTPC at new value +5 Rs.

Buy 100 shares at CMP.

This will reduce your avg. costing significantly and then you can hold till mid april and then sold it out.

Till 15 march sensex can see good days again. so be prepare.

NTPC is a good stock with great prospect story in the long term. But in the near term there may not be great spikes as the markets are expected to be range bound in the after months of the budget.
But in the long term, definitely this stock has very good prospects looking at the great order book this company has for the future.

Rahul
it depends upon you that at which price you purchased the shares and rightnow what the MP. if you need money then you may sell this
