You can open a trading account with E*trade (they have an office in 1 Canada Square, London) which enables you to trade on line. Ask for US markets account, then you can trade many US stocks which are under 1$. The minimum on the account is 1000$. That is enough to start and learn.

There is no reason why you cannot invest £200 in the LSE.

But what about the practicalities? With a stockbroker this will cost about £50, which equates to 25% commission!! That's not including selling the stock. Also how will you diversify?
Maybe online would be cheaper?
Many years ago I worked for a London s/b and we did a lot of business with one of the High Street banks.(pre Big Bang) They would have hundreds of orders as low as investing £10 (charges on top)
I know it's not in your question but how about CFDs. Have a look at the article on http://www.shareworld.co.uk

Its pretty pointless actually mate

I-like-to-answer-you
Yes there are sites which enable you to do this without haveing to go through a stock brocker.
But dont expect any sort of high return, unless the stocks you invested in sky rocketed extremely high.
Hope this helps

I have recently invested in a self select ISA with a few hundred pounds. But remember it will cost you about £12 to make a transaction or maybe more. Returns are small on small amounts of shares and very much long term. You can lose the lot.

it is not a good bet to invest.

start saving more and a surplus pool for gambling - many a time market is flooded with gamblers - get prepared and start investing.

best of luck.

most shares on the ftse 100 are well over £200 for a single share anyway, considering their are millions avaliable you will see very little if any return, and its risky. just keep popping it in an isa account an d keep saving. when you get £10000 then get a independant financial adviser (dont be tight generally the more you pay the better service you recieve) and its in their own best interests to invest your money in middle/high risk shares. **** luck entrepreneure!
