Anyone at any age can have a growth stock mutual fund. Pick one that is at least 10 years old with an overall return of at least 12%. Fidelity Investments is a great place to start. |

the best and safest now are i bonds buy them in 100 denominations.. buy 50 then you can in five years cash small amounts with out loosing money on the whole bundle ok. |

I'd advise two mutual funds, one at Fidelity(FLATX), one at T Rowe Price (TRAMX). But do your own research on them first. I'll bet you will at least double your money in 5 years. |

I always tell people to invest half. And you can take risk calculators on the internet, that gauge when you do invest, how much of a risk you are comfortable taking. For instance... low risk(pretty much gonna be okay, no major fluctuations) or high risk(could pay off big, or could fall through the floor). |

Yes, as others have said here, a mutual fund is probably the way to go, as managed-risk exposure to the stock market is almost always more profitable than other financial instruments. But definitely do your own research here when it comes to which funds to pick. Your local library should have finance magazines that could help. |
